Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Although Carlos Soler found the net again in the game against FC Barcelona, a 1-4 defeat at Mestalla left the midfielder disatisfied, as he told VCF Media after the final whistle.
A bad first half
“The defeat was very hard, because it was a game which, had we won, we would still be close to the European positions. Losing, they move a long way away. It's a shame, because we've had all week to prepare and in the first half a 0-3 scoreline makes it very difficult for you. In the second half you can't blame us for anything, but in the first half you can."
Improvements required in defence
“It was a strange first half, in which they immediately put us 0-3 down, with two very fast goals from the wings. You have to analyse it logically, because we have already conceded many goals. We have to analyse it -all of us, because the defense starts with the forwards."
Self criticism
“We are self-critical because it is reality. Today's result is tough, but we have to have a strong mentality because the league is not over yet. There are many games left. Now we are going to Mallorca and we must have a positive mentality, although we should always be self-critical."
Learning from mistakes
“The second half performance is what we needed. The disallowed goal before the end of the first half would have given us a bit more of a positive mentality. I think we had chances to score a second goal. We didn't do that, and in the 60th minute they made it 1-4, which is very tough to recover from. We have to take away the positives and not the negatives, which in recent matchdays have been many things. Everybody should look at what they have to improve, and do it. In the league there are still many games left, and we have to move closer to the European places. Our energies are focused on the Copa del Rey, but first we have to think about winning against Mallorca."
